Lead Engineering Strategy & Operations Partner

Sydney

Who is Quantium?

Quantium is a world leader in data science and artificial intelligence. Established in Australia in 2002, Quantium is a global team of more than 1,200 people across 14 locations with a unique blend of capabilities across product and consulting services to help businesses unlock value from data and analytics. Quantium partners with the world's largest corporations to forge a better, more intelligent world.

We are searching for a Lead Engineering Strategy & Operations Partner to join us in Sydney. This is a high-impact, lead-level individual contributor role working in close partnership with the Head of Engineering to help shape how engineering operates, aligns, and delivers at scale.

As Quantium’s engineering organisation continues to grow in size and complexity, the challenge is no longer just building great technology. It is ensuring teams can move with clarity, alignment, and momentum across an increasingly interconnected environment. This role exists to help engineering leadership navigate that complexity.

Sitting within Technology & Delivery, you will act as a trusted partner to Engineering Managers and senior engineering leaders, helping turn strategy into execution and bringing structure to initiatives where ownership, priorities, or operating models are still evolving. You will help create the conditions for engineering teams to do their best work by improving visibility, reducing friction, surfacing trade-offs early, and strengthening how teams coordinate and execute together.

This role offers significant scope to shape how engineering operates over time, and will suit someone energised by solving organisational problems, creating clarity in ambiguous environments, and influencing outcomes through credibility rather than authority.

While delivery experience is important, this is not a traditional project or program management role. Success in this position comes from systems thinking, strong partnership with technical leaders, sound judgement, and the ability to help a complex engineering organisation operate more effectively as it scales.

How you will make an impact

  • Partner closely with Engineering Managers and senior engineering leaders to improve alignment, execution, and operating effectiveness across teams
  • Create lightweight operating mechanisms that improve planning, prioritisation, visibility, and decision-making without adding unnecessary process
  • Bring clarity and momentum to ambiguous or cross-cutting initiatives where ownership, priorities, or direction are still emerging
  • Surface risks, dependencies, and delivery trade-offs early, helping leaders make better and faster decisions
  • Improve visibility into engineering work, helping stakeholders understand progress, impact, constraints, and investment areas
  • Support engineering through change, including evolving structures, priorities, AI-enabled ways of working, and new operating rhythms

The superpowers you will bring to the team

  • Deep understanding of how modern software engineering organisations build, ship, and operate systems at scale
  • Experience helping engineering organisations navigate complexity, ambiguity, alignment challenges, and cross-team execution
  • Strong judgement around when teams need structure, and when process becomes friction
  • High trust and credibility with engineers and technical leaders, earned through technical fluency and pragmatic decision-making
  • Strong systems thinking, with the ability to connect strategy, execution, organisational dynamics, and outcomes
  • Proven ability to influence without authority and turn complex or ambiguous situations into shared understanding and action
