About wiq

Wiq is the partnership between Quantium and Woolworths Group, bringing together Quantium's data science and advanced analytics capability with Woolworths' scale and retail expertise to reimagine retail by solving the most complex problems using data and analytics. As a team, we leverage Agile ways of working to help our team develop their skills while also making sure our team is focusing on solving the most complex problems for both our customers and team.

As the largest retailer in Australia and New Zealand, Woolworths Group serves over 20 million customers every week. The work within wiqRetail spans across the Woolworths business—from customer loyalty and personalisation to eCommerce, store operations, supply chain, ranging, and pricing.

The Role

We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join the wiqRetail team and lead data science workstreams that solve business and customer problems across the Woolworths Group, driving strategic insights that influence business decisions and create measurable impact. You'll take ownership of complex analytical projects, mentor junior team members, and act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders.

What You'll Do

  • Lead complex data science workstreams, developing strategic insights that directly influence decision-making across Woolworths
  • Design and implement robust analytical frameworks and methodologies to solve challenging business problems using diverse datasets and advanced techniques
  • Mentor and guide junior data scientists, providing technical coaching, feedback, and career development support
  • Partner closely with senior stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into innovative analytical solutions
  • Own quality management for analytical outputs, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and business relevance across multiple projects
  • Present directly to stakeholders and participate in strategic workshops, communicating complex findings to key stakeholders and decision-makers
  • Build strong partnerships with cross-functional teams including data scientists, engineers, consultants, and business stakeholders
  • Apply understanding of Generative AI applications to enhance analytical productivity and deliverable quality, staying current with emerging technologies
  • Champion continuous improvement of analytical processes, tools, and methodologies

What You'll Bring

  • 4–7 years' progressive experience in data analysis, with demonstrated leadership, project management, and client-facing experience
  • Advanced SQL skills for complex data extraction, manipulation, and analysis across multiple platforms
  • Advanced programming experience with Python or R, including statistical libraries and machine learning frameworks
  • Experience with data visualisation
  • A proven track record applying statistical methods, machine learning, and predictive analytics to solve real business problems
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to present to senior executives with confidence
  • Commercial acumen and an understanding of business strategy
  • Familiarity with cloud-based analytics platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and big data technologies
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver quality outcomes under pressure
  • A bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (a relevant postgraduate qualification is a plus)
