As a Lead Data Scientist within our AI Technical Solutions team, you will lead the design and delivery of production-grade AI solutions for clients, managing and mentoring a team of data scientists to build innovative GenAI applications that tackle complex business problems. This role combines deep technical expertise in AI/ML with people leadership — translating emerging AI capabilities into practical, high-impact solutions whilst building capability within the team.

You will set technical direction for AI solution delivery, establish best practices for production-grade development, and contribute to business development activities including technical scoping, proposal development, and client presentations. Acting as a technical leader, you will architect solutions that balance innovation with pragmatism, champion engineering excellence, and help grow the next generation of data scientists at Quantium.

 

How will you make an impact? 

• • Technical leadership and solution architecture: Lead the design and architecture of complex GenAI solutions, evaluating alternative approaches and making informed decisions on when to apply classical ML, LLMs, agents, workflows, or RAG. Establish technical standards and evaluation frameworks for production-grade AI development.
  • People leadership and team development: Manage, mentor and coach a team of data scientists. Foster a culture of intellectual curiosity, experimentation and continuous learning, whilst supporting career development and building team capability through knowledge sharing and code reviews.
  • Solution delivery and quality: Oversee end-to-end delivery of AI solutions from design through to production deployment. Ensure solutions meet quality standards and are built for production operation, balancing technical excellence with commercial pragmatism.
  • Business development and client engagement: Contribute to technical scoping and effort estimation for proposals, participate in pre-sales client presentations, and translate complex AI concepts into clear business value propositions for diverse audiences.
  • Strategic contribution: Contribute to the strategic direction of the AI Solutions team, identify opportunities to develop reusable components and accelerators, and stay connected to the broader AI ecosystem.

 

 

The superpowers you’ll be bringing to the team: 

• Technical depth: 7+ years of experience in data science, AI/ML solution delivery, or technical consulting, with a proven track record leading teams to deliver production-grade AI/ML solutions
• GenAI and LLM expertise: Deep practical experience building with LLM frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or similar, with a strong understanding of transformer architectures, embeddings, and modern AI development patterns
• Engineering excellence: Expert-level Python programming with modern software development practices including testing, CI/CD, and code quality tools, plus strong experience across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and containerisation
• People leadership: Demonstrated experience managing and developing data scientists, with the ability to build team capability and create an environment where people can do their best work
• Communication and commercial awareness: Strong ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences, with experience in effort estimation, scoping, and understanding the commercial implications of technical decisions
• Academic background: Tertiary qualifications in engineering, mathematics, computer science, statistics, or a related discipline
