Senior Electronics Engineer

Adelaide

Own the power electronics and embedded systems that let Arrow and Dagger interceptors survive high-speed flight and defeat autonomous threats in real time.

About Praetorian

Praetorian Aeronautics builds advanced autonomous aerial systems designed to protect and defend against the rapidly evolving threat of drone warfare.

Headquartered in Adelaide, and with offices in Melbourne and Darwin, we are developing an integrated ecosystem of counter-autonomy systems including:

  • Arrow – an autonomous, high-speed, low-cost, VTOL interceptor for kinetic neutralisation of multiple UxS threat-types beyond visual range
  • Dagger – a new class of modular, low-cost, autonomous, high-speed interceptor for long-range, high-altitude kinetic neutralisation of UxS targets
  • Hadrian – an AI-enhanced command and control system enabling operators to deploy interceptors at scale
  • Venator – a long-endurance autonomous mothership UAS capable of deploying interceptors and extending operational reach

Together, these systems enable defence operators to detect, assess, and defeat autonomous threats while maintaining situational dominance in contested environments.

The Role

Every interceptor Praetorian fields and every mothership that carries them, depends on power electronics and embedded systems that survive the stresses of high-speed flight and work flawlessly in the one moment they're needed: intercepting an autonomous threat before it strikes. There's no tolerance for a board that fails in the field, so the electronics have to be right from first principles through to the production line.

You will join Praetorian's engineering team to own the end-to-end design of digital, analogue, and power electronics across our portfolio of avionics systems, from architecture through schematics, PCB layout, and into qualification and production. That means taking designs from clean-sheet concept to flight-ready hardware on platforms like Arrow and Dagger, integrating and testing electronics assemblies, developing and executing verification and validation test campaigns and troubleshooting design faults, and writing the reports and documentation that back it all up. You'll review and approve the schematics and PCB layouts of other engineers, mentor junior electronics engineers, liaise directly with subcontractors and suppliers, and get hands-on in flight trials and lab setups as these systems move from prototype to production. You'll work closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineering so that every board going into an interceptor performs exactly when it has to.

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in electronics/electrical engineering, with a demonstrated track record of taking designs from concept through qualification and production
  • Deep expertise in electronics and electrical fundamentals, particularly power electronics and embedded systems
  • A university degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, mechatronics, or a related discipline
  • High proficiency with E-CAD packages (ideally Altium Designer) and MS Office
  • Hands-on experience with electronics lab equipment — DC power supplies, programmable loads, multimeters, oscilloscopes, VNAs, spectrum analysers
  • Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills, with high attention to detail
  • Strong communicator, able to convey complex technical information clearly and collaborate across a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technicians

Nice to Have

  • Strong interest or experience in avionics or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)
  • Familiarity with aerospace design assurance and environmental qualification standards
  • An existing Australian Government security clearance

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and employee share option plan (ESOP)
  • Work on advanced autonomy and defence technology
  • Join a small, highly technical engineering team
  • Real ownership and influence as Praetorian scales
  • Professional development and learning opportunities

Security & Compliance Requirements

Given the nature of our work in defence and national security, all team members must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
