DevOps Engineer

Adelaide, South Australia, Australia, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Streamline and scale the deployment and management of Hadrian, Praetorian's AI-enhanced command and control system coordinating autonomous defence against drone swarms.

About Praetorian
Praetorian Aeronautics builds advanced autonomous aerial systems designed to protect and defend against the rapidly evolving threat of drone warfare.

Headquartered in Adelaide, we are developing an integrated ecosystem of counter-autonomy systems including:

  • Arrow – an autonomous, high-speed, low-cost, VTOL interceptor for neutralisation of multiple UxS threat-types beyond visual range
  • Dagger – a new class of modular, low-cost, autonomous, high-speed interceptor for long-range, high-altitude kinetic neutralisation of UxS targets
  • Hadrian – an AI-enhanced command and control system enabling operators to deploy interceptors at scale
  • Venator – a long-endurance autonomous mothership UAS capable of deploying interceptors and extending operational reach

Together, these systems enable defence operators to detect, assess, and defeat autonomous threats while maintaining situational dominance in contested environments.

The Role

Drone swarms are one of the fastest-growing threats in modern warfare. Hadrian is Praetorian's answer — the command and control layer that allows operators to understand swarm behaviour, plan responses, and coordinate autonomous interceptors at scale. Getting capability into operators' hands quickly and reliably is as critical as building it in the first place.

You will work embedded within the Software team to own the DevOps infrastructure that underpins Hadrian — designing and maintaining deployment pipelines, building the tooling and automation that keeps development moving, and ensuring capability updates reach the field in a fast, assured, and repeatable manner.

This includes infrastructure management, CI/CD, and deployment processes that span both cloud and embedded software environments.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role
  • Experience managing CI/CD platforms and software reliability tools
  • Experience building and maintaining automation and monitoring tooling
  • Experience managing Linux based servers/platforms
  • Experience with Python or similar languages
  • Experience working with Software teams to drive improvements

Nice to Have

  • Experience with NixOS
  • Experience with the deployment of embedded systems
  • Experience in a defence related industry

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and employee share option plan (ESOP)
  • Work on advanced autonomy and defence technology
  • Join a small, highly technical engineering team
  • Real ownership and influence as Praetorian scales
  • Professional development and learning opportunities

Security & Compliance Requirements

Due to the nature of our work with defence and national security partners, the successful applicant will need to undergo a National Police Check and hold an Australian Permanent Residency or Australian Citizenship.
