Octopus Deploy sets the standard for Continuous Delivery, empowering software teams to deliver value in an agile way. Over 4,000 organizations globally – including Ubisoft, Xero, Stack Overflow, NASA, and Disney – rely on our Continuous Delivery, GitOps, and release orchestration solutions.
Founded in Australia in 2012, our team of over 300 Octonauts now spans the globe. We combine high growth and big ambitions with a sustainable, balanced working environment. Our revenue has grown consistently between 20–50% every year for the past 9 years, and we’ve been profitable for 10 out of the past 12 years. Octopus now provides the industry's most comprehensive Continuous Delivery solution for organizations operating at scale.
We’ve been remote-first since 2015 and work with an uncommon level of transparency. You can read our public handbook to learn how we work. We have a transparent approach to compensation that ensures people doing the same work with the same skill get paid the same, with well-defined career pathways. We foster a supportive, collaborative, and high-trust environment. We leave our job titles at the door and focus on doing what’s best for our customers and team. Our leaders never shy away from answering the tough questions at our all-hands calls or in 1:1s. We conduct interviews and onboarding virtually as part of being a remote-first company.
We're looking for a Lead Product Designer to lead the Core CD mission. This role sits at the intersection of strategic design leadership and deep domain complexity: you'll guide a small team of talented designers, shape how enterprises get their software safely and reliably to production at scale, and set the vision for the experience that sits at the heart of Octopus's primary value proposition.
By championing the needs of enterprise customers and partnering across R&D and go-to-market teams, you’ll help Octopus deliver experiences that are unified, unmistakably Octopus, and built for the scale of our largest customers.
Why this job is exciting
- You'll play a pivotal role in shaping the experience that sits at the core of what Octopus does – getting software to production safely, reliably, and at scale.
- We're at a genuine inflection point: AI will be flooding pipelines with more changes than ever, and Octopus needs to be the place where that meets enterprise-grade rigour. You'll help define what that looks like.
- You'll lead the Core CD mission and set the next horizon of design strategy in partnership with Product and Engineering peers – tackling real UX debt while building for the future of human + AI software delivery.
- You'll provide direction to a team of 2 Product Designers working on the same mission.
- You'll serve as a visible design leader across R&D and the company, advocating for the engineers and platform teams who depend on Octopus every day, and building alignment between Product, Engineering, Design, Sales, Marketing, and Customer teams.
- You'll have real autonomy and impact – the chance to set the standard for what a world-class path to production experience looks like.
What you’ll do
- Lead product design across the Core CD domain, supporting and growing a team of Product Designers
- Act as a player-coach close to the details, both shaping strategy with key partners and stepping into driving specific initiatives
- Champion design for both Day 1 and Day 200: from first-time setup to long-term enterprise operations across thousands of engineers and multiple business units
- Work with Product & Engineering peers to lead your group and establish systems for high-quality execution on feature development
- Champion the needs of DevOps and Application Engineers, shaping multi-touchpoint journeys that extend beyond the product itself
- Pave the way for how we measure the experience for our core customer journeys, helping us hold the right bar for quality
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, CSM, and TAMs to influence the core deployment experience
- Drive coherence and consistency across core product experiences, ensuring Octopus feels unified and unmistakably ours
- Inspire teams with compelling narratives that link design to customer and business outcomes
We’re looking for someone like you who
- Brings 7+ years of product design experience, ideally 3+ of those years in developer-facing tools or technical B2B platforms
- Thrives in complexity: you can map multi-stakeholder journeys, anticipate edge cases, and balance effortless UX with enterprise-grade requirements
- Brings a strong toolkit as a design practitioner, with skills in journey mapping, vision casting, prototyping, customer research & other sense-making artifacts that articulate our customer experience
- Has proven experience leading and growing designers, creating conditions for quality and impact
- Influences and aligns execs, peers, and cross-functional leaders around ambitious product experiences
- Communicates with clarity and inspiration, helping teams connect daily decisions to the bigger picture
- Brings a systems mindset, to spot cross-portfolio opportunities and coach others to steward quality
