Overview:
FutureSecure.ai is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Legal Counsel to provide legal support and guidance to the General Counsel and the broader organization. This role will support a wide range of legal matters, with a growing emphasis on the legal and regulatory landscape surrounding AI technologies, data privacy, and intellectual property. The Legal Counsel will work closely with various internal teams, including engineering, product, and sales, to proactively identify and mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance with applicable US laws and regulations. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated attorney to contribute significantly to a rapidly growing company.
Responsibilities:
- Legal Advisory: Provide comprehensive legal advice to internal stakeholders on a variety of legal topics, including (but not limited to) data privacy, intellectual property, contract law, corporate governance, and commercial agreements.
- Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts, including vendor agreements, customer contracts, and partnership agreements. Ensure contractual compliance and risk mitigation.
- Regulatory Compliance: Advise on and ensure compliance with US federal, state, and local laws and regulations, particularly those related to data privacy (e.g., CCPA, state-level privacy laws), AI governance, and cybersecurity.
- Intellectual Property: Assist in the protection of FutureSecure’s intellectual property, including trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Manage IP filings and enforcement.
- Litigation Support: Support litigation efforts by coordinating with external counsel, reviewing discovery documents, and providing legal analysis.
- Risk Management: Proactively identify and assess legal risks associated with new products, services, and business initiatives. Develop and implement mitigation strategies.
- AI Legal Considerations: Provide specialized legal guidance on emerging legal and ethical considerations related to AI, including algorithmic bias, data security, transparency, and liability. Collaborate with engineering and product teams to embed legal considerations into the development lifecycle.
- Data Privacy: Advise on and implement data privacy programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Respond to data privacy inquiries and incidents.
- Legal Research & Analysis: Conduct legal research using resources such as LexisNexis and Westlaw to support legal decision-making and stay abreast of evolving legal developments.
- Corporate Governance: Assist with corporate governance matters, including board meetings, compliance certifications, and entity management.
Qualifications:
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Bar Admission: Admission to a US state bar and in good standing.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience practicing law in the US, with a preference for experience in a technology company or law firm serving technology clients.
- Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated understanding of legal concepts related to data privacy, intellectual property, and contract law.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly and concisely to non-legal audiences.
- Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate effectively and protect the organization’s interests.
- AI Legal Knowledge (Preferred): Familiarity with emerging legal and regulatory frameworks related to AI, including considerations of bias, transparency, and accountability.
- Data Privacy Expertise (Preferred): Experience with data privacy laws and regulations (e.g., CCPA, GDPR).
- Intellectual Property Experience (Preferred): Experience with trademark, copyright, and trade secret law.
