Financial Accountant

Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand

We are building technology that changes how space is accessed and operated. That means solving hard problems, moving quickly, and operating in an environment where complexity is the norm—not the exception.

As a mature, scaling startup in a deeply technical and highly regulated industry, we need people who are comfortable with ambiguity, who take ownership, and who care deeply about getting the details right while still moving forward.

Our finance team plays a critical role in enabling this—bringing structure, clarity, and discipline to support growth.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Financial Accountant who brings strong technical accounting capability and practical judgement in a fast-moving, multi-entity environment.

This role is not just about reporting accuracy. It is about creating clarity from complexity: owning month-end and year-end processes, consolidating across multiple entities, and helping the business understand its financial position so better decisions can be made.

You will work closely with engineering, operations, and commercial teams, translating financial information into clear, actionable insight for non-finance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Control

  • Own and deliver month-end and year-end close processes with accuracy and discipline
  • Prepare and review financial statements in line with IFRS
  • Lead consolidation across multiple entities within the group
  • Maintain strong financial controls in a rapidly scaling environment

Planning & Insight

  • Support budgeting and forecasting cycles
  • Analyse financial performance and provide clear, practical insights
  • Identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities across the business

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Work within and improve ERP-driven finance processes
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement pragmatic improvements
  • Build and maintain robust Excel-based financial models

About You

You are technically strong, but also pragmatic. And you have a sense of humour.

Technical capability

  • 3+ years’ experience in a hands-on accounting role
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and financial reporting
  • Experience with month-end, year-end, and multi-entity consolidation
  • Exposure to budgeting and forecasting processes

Analytical mindset

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Able to interpret data and turn it into clear, useful insights
  • Comfortable identifying issues and driving improvements

Systems capability

  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g. Xero, or similar)
  • Advanced Excel skills (modelling, analysis, structured data)

Ways of working

  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, evolving environment
  • Takes ownership and follows through on commitments
  • Balances accuracy with pace and pragmatism

Collaboration

  • Able to work effectively with non-finance teams
  • Clear and direct communicator

Why this role matters

Finance in our business is not just a reporting function - it is a critical enabler of scale.

This role helps ensure we make informed decisions, manage complexity, and build a financial foundation that can support long-term growth in a demanding aerospace environment.

We value people who take ownership, think critically, and are motivated by solving hard problems. If that sounds like you, we’d like to hear from you.

Diversity & Inclusion

At Dawn Aerospace, we believe that diverse teams build better solutions. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences are valued and supported to do their best work.

About Dawn Aerospace

Dawn Aerospace is a space transportation company with a purpose.
Our mission is to enable the next generation of space users by providing more sustainable and scalable ways to access and move around in space. We believe this access, in the form of a transportation network, will fundamentally change what’s possible from space. We currently focus on three areas of space transportation:

  • In-space propulsion
We're a leading supplier of turnkey green propulsion systems for various classes of satellites. Our systems utilise safe, accessible propellants and we have over 170 of these propulsion units on more than 40 operational satellites already. A further 200 units are in production.
  • In-space servicing
Coupled with our propulsion expertise, we are ensuring that our customers' satellites are refuellable. In the coming years, Dawn will offer a refueling service to enable life extension of customer satellites. This new market is aligned with our sustainability goal to ensue a clean and safe space for everyone!
  • Spaceplane
We are developing the fastest and highest-flying aircraft ever to take off from a runway, combining the extreme performance of rocket propulsion with the reusability of conventional airplanes to enable high-frequency, low-cost access to sub-orbital space.

Our international teams are distributed across four locations: the Netherlands, France, New Zealand, and the USA.
