Chaos1 is an Australian defence company with a mission to forge a faster path to warfighter capability. Purpose-driven and mission-first, Chaos1 deploys the people, processes and technologies needed to tackle defence's toughest problems. In a world where time is short and the threats are real, Chaos1 is the catalyst that operates forward to rapidly field warfighter capability in months.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Test and Evaluation team at Chaos1 works across the full range of Defence emerging technologies with a focus on counter-uncrewed and autonomous systems. Its analysts and engineers deploy Chaos1's rapid assessment and operational test methodologies to generate decision-grade data under compressed timeframes, on Defence ranges and at allied activities.
ABOUT THE JOB
Chaos1 is seeking mission-first Test & Evaluation Analysts to join the Test & Evaluation team within our Mission Operations business line. You will plan, run and report test serials on Defence ranges and at allied activities, capturing the data that turns a customer's question into a decision. You can expect to work alongside operators, engineers and the end-user to inform Defence capability decisions.
This is an opportunity to learn operational test the way it is practised on the range, from analysts who own the findings.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Plan test serials from the test plan. You will prepare the data capture, instrumentation and data sheets against the plan's measures for each serial, and confirm readiness before it runs
- Run serials on the range floor, logging events, capturing data and keeping the daily log current
- Reduce and analyse telemetry, video and log data against the measures, and draft findings for review
- Hold traceability from measure to result for every serial you run, and record deficiencies as you find them
- Draft test report inputs and briefing material for your serials to Chaos1's data standards
- Support test readiness with the flight operations and engineering teams, including configuration under test
- Raise changes to Chaos1's rapid assessment and operational test methodologies after each event, with the data that supports them
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics or a related technical discipline. Equivalent experience may substitute, including an operational background in trials or evaluation.
- Over 2 years in test and evaluation, trials, operational analysis or an operational role that evaluated equipment or tactics
- Experience capturing and analysing data in the field, on the range or in the lab
- Clear written reporting, with the ability to state a finding and the evidence behind it
- Time spent working alongside operators and engineers under compressed timeframes
- Willingness to deploy to Defence sites and ranges for extended periods, including irregular hours in campaign windows
- Australian citizenship and ability to obtain a NV1 security clearance
- Ability to be onsite at Chaos1's XFACTORY, Sydney. The role is open to hybrid work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Time on UAS, counter-UAS or autonomy trials
- Experience in Defence T&E, operational test or trials organisations
- Familiarity with Defence T&E documents including test plans, trial directives and test reports
- Experience with telemetry, video or C2 log reduction and test instrumentation
- Familiarity with tactical datalinks, RF or networked C2 systems
- Familiarity with Defence and CASA regulation of uncrewed aircraft trials
- A CASA Remote Pilot Licence or experience operating uncrewed systems
- Test experience in operational settings, remote or austere environments
- A current NV1 security clearance or above
SALARY
A salary benchmarked against the Australian defence market, plus above-mandated superannuation and annual salary reviews. Where you sit depends on your experience and the breadth of your skills across the areas listed.
BENEFITS
- Superannuation above the mandated rate.
- 25 days of annual leave every year, a full week more than the standard four weeks.
- Clearance sponsorship. We sponsor your clearance and pay the vetting costs.
