IT Systems Administrator

Banksmeadow, NSW

Chaos1 is an Australian defence company with a mission to forge a faster path to warfighter capability. Purpose-driven and mission-first, Chaos1 deploys the people, processes and technologies needed to tackle defence's toughest problems. In a world where time is short and the threats are real, Chaos1 is the catalyst that operates forward to rapidly field warfighter capability in months.

ABOUT THE JOB

As Chaos1's IT Systems Administrator, you will own the digital estate. The role will administer Microsoft 365, identity, devices and the XFACTORY network, hold the security baseline, and support staff at the site and in the field. It is a hands-on role with broad scope, suited to someone who wants to build and shape an environment rather than work a ticket queue in a large IT department.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Administer Microsoft 365 including Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams and Intune, and the identity and access model that keeps controlled technical data and test evidence with the people authorised to see it
  • Provision and manage endpoints, accounts and access for staff from onboarding to offboarding, with accounts live before the starter arrives
  • Run the XFACTORY network including switching, wireless, firewall and remote access, and keep it documented
  • Hold the security baseline including adherence to the Essential Eight to the maturity level Chaos1's DISP membership and customers require, run logging and monitoring, backup and recovery, and keep the evidence
  • Support staff at the site and in the field, including deployable IT kit and connectivity for campaigns
  • Own software licences, subscriptions and IT vendors
  • Support the company's information security obligations under DISP and customer requirements, working with the security officer and the engineering team

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or degree in Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent experience with industry certifications
  • Over 3 years administering Microsoft 365 and Windows environments, including Entra ID, Intune and SharePoint
  • Experience with networking fundamentals including switching, wireless, firewalls, VPN and IP addressing
  • Experience applying the Essential Eight or a comparable security baseline, including patching, backups and multi-factor authentication
  • Hands-on with endpoint provisioning, hardware support and user support
  • Clear written documentation, and plain-language support for staff of every technical level
  • Willingness to support field activities on occasion, including travel to Defence sites
  • Australian citizenship and ability to obtain a NV1 security clearance
  • Ability to be onsite at Chaos1's XFACTORY, Sydney. This is a predominantly onsite role.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Microsoft certifications such as MS-102, AB-650, MD-102, AZ-104 or SC-300
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels, data loss prevention and conditional access to control access to export-controlled technical data, including Australian data residency
  • Experience meeting the Information Security Manual (ISM) or DISP cyber requirements
  • Experience with Linux, virtualisation and scripting in PowerShell or Python
  • Experience with a managed service provider relationship, on either side of it
  • Experience with deployable or field IT including satellite and cellular connectivity
  • Experience with device management for mixed Windows and macOS fleets
  • Familiarity with defence industry environments or other regulated sectors
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery testing
  • A current NV1 security clearance or above

SALARY

A salary benchmarked against the Australian defence market, plus above-mandated superannuation and annual salary reviews. Where you sit depends on your back-office experience and the breadth of your skills across the areas listed.

  • Clearance sponsorship. We sponsor your clearance and pay the vetting costs.

Chaos1 handles your application under Australian privacy law and our applicant privacy notice. Offers are conditional on pre-employment screening, which may be run by a third-party provider and covers identity, right to work, qualifications and licences, references and a national police check.
